Thanksgiving Leftovers Storage Guide

October 15, 2015
Even though you’ve sent guests home with Ziploc® brand bags and containers full of leftovers, there’s more food to store! And eat! But…can you still snack on those mashed potatoes a week before New Year’s? Here’s how to make the feast last!
Thanksgiving Leftovers Storage Guide

TURKEY

The official bird of Thanksgiving keeps quite well when you cut it into smaller pieces before storing—in a Ziploc® container in the fridge you’ve got 3-4 days of sandwiches, and in a Ziploc® brand freezer bag in the freezer you’ve got 2-3 months.

ROLLS

Ah, the carb-balls. In the pantry, hard-crusted bread will last 2-3 days in a Ziploc® brand bag; soft-crusted will last 4-5. But stash it in the freezer, and you’ve got a good 2-3 months in a Ziploc® brand freezer bag.

MASHED POTATOES OR YAMS

Mashed potatoes or yams in a Ziploc® container last 3-5 days in the fridge, and a whopping 10-12 months in the freezer (heck, make a ton and serve them next year…kidding!)

STUFFING

With proper storage, there’s plenty of time to stuff yourself with stuffing. In the fridge in a Ziploc® container, you’ve got 3-4 days, and in a Ziploc® brand freezer bag in the freezer, you’ve got 1 month.

GRAVY

It’s all gravy when you store it in a Ziploc® container! You get 1-2 days in the fridge, and 2-3 months in the freezer. Just be sure to bring gravy to a full boil when reheating.

CRANBERRY SAUCE

Its tangy red goodness will keep just fine in a Ziploc® container—in the fridge, 10-14 days, and in the freezer, 1-2 months.

BROTH/STOCK

Broth always comes in handy, so save it in a Ziploc® container in the fridge for 3-4 days, or in a Ziploc® brand freezer bag in the freezer for 4-5 months.

Tip: Freeze broth in ice cube trays, and then store the frozen cubes in a Ziploc® brand freezer bags. Keep track of how many cubes = 1 cup and write the results on the bag! In our test kitchen (see photo), 12 cubes were equal to 1 cup.
