Decking the Halls on a Budget

October 01, 2013
May I be frank here? I’m a lady on a budget. I absolutely love the holidays, but find that they tend to place strain on my wallet. Over the years, I’ve devised a few ways to spruce up my home without breaking the bank. Plus, this means more money for presents...and cheese!

Start by covering your tree in twinkle lights. I like to use white lights because they always cast such a romantic glow.

Then, wrap a pom pom garland around the tree, starting at the top and working your way down the tree. Check out the pom pom DIY here. Artfully arrange the pom poms to fill any gaps or open spaces on your tree.

Spruce up bulk, store-bought ornaments with ribbon scraps. These ornaments are pure white ceramic, so I felt a cheeky red ribbon would be a sweet addition. Don’t be afraid to mix up different types of ribbon and trim!

I like to top my tree with unusual toppers for a bit of interest! This year I topped my tree with a pure white bird that I found at my local craft store.

My apartment door is, umm, rather bland. My favorite part is my shiny, gold number 1, so I decided to hang my wreath around that! The combination is super cute and inviting, don’t you think?

I also used a pom pom garland to spread cheer to my fellow apartment-dwellers. I think they add a fun and bright touch to the historical stairwell.
