3 Easy Piping Techniques

October 01, 2017

It’s more than a bag, it’s a DIY icing machine. With Ziploc® brand seal top bags, it’s fast and easy to prep like a pro and create colorful cupcakes, gift-worthy confections and delicious chocolate treats. Use this simple technique to open up a world of confectionary possibilities while the Smart Zip Plus® seal keeps sticky ingredients from escaping out of the wrong end of the bag.

How to make a piping bag

  • 3

Unfold the bag, press out the air and close the seal. Press the frosting to the bottom of the bag and twist and hold at the top to create a piping bag shape.

  • 4

Snip the corner of the bag with scissors – cut off just a little to make fine lines or cut more to make a thicker stripe. Start small, pipe a test stripe and cut more if needed.

1. Perfect cupcake swirls

easy

Frost cupcakes with professional flair.

  • 1

Fill a Ziploc® brand storage bag with frosting and cut a large hole from the corner.

  • 2

Begin piping around the outer edge of the cupcake and continue spiraling toward the middle, piping overlapping circles.

  • 3

At the center of the cupcake, stop squeezing, then lift up to create a peak of frosting.

TIP

To perfect your technique, practice making swirls on a clean plate. Reopen the bag using the Easy Open Tab, scoop in icing from practice swirls and reseal to complete frosting cupcakes.

2. Colorful chocolate-covered pretzels

Festive chocolate-covered pretzels are simple to make and easy to create custom designs. Prepare these quick and simple treats for a party or potluck.

  • 1

Dip pretzel rods in melted chocolate or white chocolate.

  • 2

Fill a Ziploc® brand storage bag with melted (but not too hot!) chocolate or colorful candy melts and cut a small hole in the corner.

  • 3

    Pipe stripes onto dipped pretzels.

TIP

Fill multiple Ziploc® brand storage bags with different colors or finish with sprinkles before the chocolate hardens to give your treats some flair.

3. Chocolate-filled strawberries

easy

Turn chocolate-covered strawberries inside-out and skip the sticky fingers. Prep ahead and keep them fresh in a Ziploc® brand container in the fridge.

  • 1

Wash, trim and core fresh strawberries.

  • 2

Fill a Ziploc® brand sandwich bag with chocolate hazelnut spread and snip a small corner from the bag.

  • 3

Push the snipped corner of the bag into the core of the strawberry and squeeze to fill. Voilà – chocolate-filled strawberries.
